Bold Commerce Doubles Down on Headless Checkout With Expansion of Its C-Suite

March 10, 2022

Ecommerce Technology Company Appoints Matt Zimmerman of Adobe Commerce as Chief Technology Officer; Eric Boisjoli Takes on Chief Availability Officer Role

AUSTIN, Texas & WINNIPEG, Manitoba

Bold Commerce, the ecommerce technology company that powers checkout and subscription experiences for the world’s leading retailers and emerging DTC brands, today announced the expansion of its C-Suite with new executive appointments. Matt Zimmerman will join Bold Commerce as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Eric Boisjoli, co-founder of Bold Commerce, will serve as the company’s first-ever Chief Availability Officer (CAO). Together, they will lead the continued expansion of Bold Commerce’s checkout ecosystem, which gives brands a headless and modular alternative to go beyond the capabilities of native platform checkouts.

Retailers and brands have become increasingly aware of the limitations of standard ecommerce checkouts on their ability to convert shoppers into buyers. They previously dismissed the checkout as too costly and complex to change, and instead focused on improving shopping experiences in every stage of the shopper journey leading up to checkout. But with over half (53%) of shoppers proceeding to checkout and then dropping off before completing their purchase, brands are now demanding the ability to decouple their checkouts from their front-end ecommerce experiences and customize them, just as they would any other part of the shopper journey.

In his role as CTO, Zimmerman will lead the continued expansion of Bold Commerce’s headless checkout ecosystem, which enables brands to create custom checkout experiences based on the nuanced needs of their businesses and shoppers, including placing checkout capabilities beyond their traditional website. Zimmerman will build out Bold Commerce’s product roadmap with a focus on transforming shopper insights into features that increase checkout conversion and reduce points of friction across every shopper touchpoint. Additionally, he will guide advances in Bold Commerce’s developer experience and partner ecosystem strategy in support of the company’s commitment to partner-led growth.

Zimmerman succeeds Eric Boisjoli, Bold Commerce’s current CTO and co-founder. Boisjoli will serve as Bold Commerce’s first Chief Availability Officer role, responsible for application performance, security and service availability–all of which are paramount in delivering the performance and stability of Bold Checkout. In addition, Boisjoli will oversee the company’s continued compliance to the highest standards of data privacy and security, putting these requirements at the forefront of how Bold Commerce’s products are designed and hosted.

“There’s really no reason that retailers should continue losing as many as half of their shoppers at checkout–they just need the right tools to unlock its power,” said Zimmerman. “Bold Commerce is unique in that it gives retail brands the ability to continue the shopper journey at checkout, rather than suddenly replace it with a new flow that feels totally disconnected. I’m looking forward to the challenge of expanding on the products the company has already built to usher in the next generation of checkout solutions in a way that unlocks revenue growth through modern commerce experiences.”

Zimmerman has over two decades of experience building products and shaping innovation roadmaps that enable ecommerce growth for businesses. He most recently served as the Senior Director, Product Engineering at Adobe Commerce, where he led the building of SaaS capabilities to introduce faster innovation across features like Live Search, Product Recommendations, and Adobe Payment. He has also held product and engineering leadership roles at Volusion and PayPal, and he started his career at Dell.

“Matt has played an active role in the evolution of commerce–specifically, building platform ecosystems that address retailers’ and shoppers’ continuously changing needs,” said Yvan Boisjoli, CEO of Bold Commerce. “Matt’s experience innovating and scaling products paired with Eric’s passion for enhancing performance and stewarding service availability for our customers will be critical to our growth as we become ubiquitous across digital channels and expand checkout’s ability to drive revenue for retailers.”

Bold Commerce offers brands a flexible alternative to their native ecommerce platform checkout, so they can elevate the checkout experience with the risk, cost or complexity of replatforming. In February, Bold Commerce announced its one-click solution, Bold Checkout: Buy Now, to offer shoppers an Amazon-like shortened path to purchase, without sacrificing customer loyalty, brand or nuanced business requirements.

More than 90,000 brands and retailers, including Vera Bradley, Harry Rosen, Staples Canada, Pepsi, and Mars, rely on Bold Commerce to tailor their checkout experiences with preferred payment methods, pricing and promotion management, subscription capabilities, buy online, pick up in store’ (BOPIS) and custom plug in capabilities, and more.
